I'm reading Donna Leon's new mystery, Trace Elements, her 29th Commissario Guido Brunetti novel. In it Brunetti travels on the Grand Canal by vaporetto from his apartment near the San Silvestro stop to San Zaccaria, close to his office. When Hans and I visited Venice through the years, we often rode this boat from one end of the Grand Canal to the other; that is, from the Piazzale Roma, down the canal, and out across the Laguna to the Lido. The Number one vaporetto stops several times along the way, so it is a good way for tourists like ourselves to get on and off at various stations to explore the city. Through the years, on our annual visit to Venice, we bought a Brunetti mystery and followed his various walks throughout Venice.
